The Westmorland County Agricultural Society's 206th Annual County Show 8th September 2005
"Simply the Best!" was a comment received at the office many times over following this year's Show.
What a day it was too-bumper crowd, excellent livestock entries, record number of trade stands and event the weather played its part.

The two National Championships not only brought livestock from the far corners of England and Scotland, but also attracted stock of an extremely high standard. The atmosphere was buzzing in the Aberdeen-Angus marquees and their dedicated judging ring; the sight of seventeen of the country's best Charollias sheep lined up for the Champion of Champions class was a wonderful spectacle.
Jimmy Doherty helped swell the pig lines, and the crowds, competing in his first ever Show - he even took a first place with his senior Saddleback boar.

Amongst the many guests was Lord Bach of Lutterworth, Minister of Food and Sustainable Farming (Lords), who was attending his first show as Agriculture Minister. He was most impressed with what he saw and enjoyed taking to the many farmers, exhibitors and traders he met.

Our own President, George Procter, along with his wife Hazel, had a fantastic day and one he thoroughly deserved. Even his recently acquired pot leg could not stop the beaming smiles as the Presidential party toured the Showground
.
The new-style Members' marquee ensured easy access all around the exhibition ring, and the larger-than-ever Food Hall was officially crowned the largest at a one day event.

Whilst receiving an overwhelming number of compliments and congratulations we must not be complacent and recognise that a few problems still have to be rectified. The most common criticism is a lack of seating around the Showground and difficulties in leaving the car parks. Rest assured these will be addressed with any further suggestions welcome.
