Thursday 11th September 2014
8am - 5.30pm
With Show Day just around the corner, arrangements are well underway for the 215th Westmorland County Show.
Voted as one of the UK’s favourite Agricultural Shows, and runner up Tourism Event of the Year, the Westmorland County Show is one of the largest one day Shows in the Country, held on the second Thursday in September attracting 30,000 people. We pride ourselves on being a major livestock Show, with its heart firmly in agriculture. Sections include cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, heavy horses, alpacas, dogs and poultry, as well as marquees for The Women's Institute, Learning or Life, Crafts from Cumbria - supporting a wide range of wonderful artisan crafts, Food Hall - entirely supported by local producers promoting their products, with special demonstrations, Rural Crafts and over 350 trade stands. Not forgetting the very popular Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling.
We are delighted that individual sections for Badger Face & Kerry Hill will be held for the first time in the sheep section and also welcome Belted Galloway into the cattle section.
The 215th County Show will also feature a world championship, with the very popular Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling 13-stone category likely to attract competitors keen for the title. A colourful event, with many competitors competing in traditional costumes.
Following their highly successful visits, the Sheep Show returns to entertain and educate all our visitors, a truly entertaining show with the infamous dancing sheep - fun on many levels.
TV chef Phil Vickery will headline the demonstrations in the enlarged Food Theatre, which again will be in a separate marquee from the magnificent Food Hall.
The Superb Members Area with marquee with luncheon and dining areas upon the plateau area has a fantastic view overlooking the Main Ring.
An enhanced free bus service will operate throughout the day from Kendal & Milnthorpe and a “fast track” entrance at Gate C is available for those with pre-paid or Members’ tickets. A dedicated cycle park is provided opposite the main entrance.
Discounted tickets are available in advance from many outlets and can also be purchased via the website, including a print-at-home E-ticket option.
Come prepared with wellies & brolly (just in case) & you’ll be all set for a great day out!
Make a Day of it!
