Westmorland County Agricultural Society Silage Competition 2006 An overwhelming response has resulted in over thirty entries in this year's Westmorland County Agricultural Society's silage competition, almost trebling last year's entry. "A mixture of factors has led to the increased interest" reported Christine Knipe, the Society's Chief Executive, "a re-vamped structure, a new sponsor and increased publicity have all helped." The competition is divided into three categories, dairy, beef and big bale silage and is open to anyone within a fifty-five mile radius of the Society's headquarters at Crooklands. The competition, which is sponsored by BOCM Pauls, is judged in two sections, one for analytical/nutrient content and the other on visual assessment. A major change for 2006 is that only the judge's party will visit the short listed farms for the visual assessment. "But no-one will not miss out on seeing what the winning silage looks like," emphasised Mrs Knipe. Class 1- Milk Production Farms (Dairy)
