The Westmorland County Show is one of the largest one day Shows in the Country and certainly one of the oldest, given that the Society was founded in 1799 and is still going from strength to strength 212 Shows later. Always held on the second Thursday in September each year; the Show attracts over 30,000 people. We pride ourselves on being a major livestock Show, with its heart firmly in agriculture. Sections include cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, heavy horses, alpacas, dogs and poultry, as well as marquees for The Women's Institute, Learning or Life, Crafts from Cumbria, local produce Food Hall, Rural Crafts and over 350 trade stands.

Westmorland is proud to boast the largest local products Food Hall in the North West, and probably in the Country, entirely supported by local producers promoting their own products, with special demonstrators and Celebrity Chefs.

The Society are committed to supporting and promoting Cumbria's wide range of wonderful artisan craft businesses, who this year will feature in the new ‘Crafts from Cumbria’ area.

The 2011 show hosted the prestigious National Show for Aberdeen-Angus Cattle,  a fantastic spectacle, bringing exhibitors from far and wide and included the very best examples of this traditional beef breed. Following their highly successful visits, the Sheep Show returned to entertain and educate all our visitors, a truly entertaining show with the infamous dancing sheep - fun on many levels.

The 212th County Show also featured a world championship, with the very popular Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling 13-stone category attracting competitors keen for the title. A colourful event, with many competitors competing in traditional costumes.

The Westmorland County Show is Cumbria’s premiere “shop window” for a “taste, try and buy” experience in a convivial and relaxing atmosphere. The Show is a centre of excellence and a great place for people to meet and discuss current and future rural issues: bringing together people from all walks of life to meet, socialise and talk. Over 25,500 people can’t be wrong!
